The PNG LNG – PIDU Research Scholarship was initiated in 2015, and aims to encourage Papua New Guinea student participation in the PIDU project by supporting students to undertake postgraduate studies at either University Papua New Guinea (UPNG) or James Cook University (JCU).
Phase I of the scholarship program supported three PNG students to undertake their postgraduate studies on marine mammal related topics. This program supported two students to study postgraduate programs at UPNG (Wilma Mavea and Monica Kolkia) and one student to study a Masters by Coursework at JCU (Elizah Nagombi). Elizah was also supported to undertake his Graduate Certificate in Research Methods at JCU.
Phase II of this scholarship program will support two students to study postgraduate programs at the University of Papua New Guinea; Jacinta Jonathan and Lythiah Mizigi. These two students were selected out of more than 100 national applicants, after a rigorous selection progress. The PIDU project would like to thank all applicants that applied for the Phase II scholarship program, as the application process was very competitive and a number of excellent applications were received.
